Dogs are vaccinated against
distemper, parvo virus, hepatitis, leptospirosis and one of the kennel
cough viruses. A complete course of vaccination is essential to
provide protection in puppies and dogs being vaccinated for the first
time. We begin our vaccination courses at eight weeks of age with
a second vaccine given at ten weeks of age. The puppy is then
fully protected two weeks after the second injection.
In adult dogs yearly
vaccination is necessary to maintain immunity.
Cats are vaccinated routinely
against two cat flu viruses and feline enteritis. In
addition we recommend that you have your cat protected against feline
leukaemia. Feline leukaemia is a viral disease of cats
spread primarily by intimate contact such as
grooming or through an infected mother to her kittens. Catfights have
also been implicated. Once a cat
is infected, the virus is usually fatal. We strongly urge you to
vaccinate your cat against feline leukaemia.
An initial cat vaccination
course is given at nine and twelve weeks of age, with an annual booster
to maintain immunity.
