Newsletter, Spring 2002 We have been producing Newsletters for some years now, and their main function is to keep you informed of changes within the practice. Staff have been breeding! Paula Goddard, our longest serving Veterinary Nurse gave birth to her son James Robert in December 2001. Marie Burr our evening receptionist gave birth to her daughter Tansy in April 2001. Jeffrey is checking the water for fertility additives... We have a new trainee Veterinary Nurse. Lucy Hensby from Horsham St.Faiths, has been with us since July 2001. She has been getting on fantastically, and will start official training in September at Easton College. The whole Veterinary Nurse training scheme has changed - again! and we are currently awaiting approval as a "Training Practice". We have recently upgraded our x-ray facility with the purchase of a floating top table. This enables us to position the part of the animal that we are x-raying much more quickly and accurately, thereby reducing the time that the pet spends under anaesthetic. We now have four Isoflurane vaporisers for gas anaesthetics. Isoflurane is a safer gas anaesthetic that also gives quicker recoveries with less 'hangover' effect. We will now only use the older Halothane for routine neutering in young healthy pets. The down side of Isoflurane is that the cost price is double that of the older Halothane. We have however, only increased the anaesthetic fee by a few pounds. We have recently acquired a dental x-ray machine, similar to those used by human dentists. Although not frequently used, this enables us to diagnose tooth root abscesses before they burst out and drain though the side of the face! and detect teeth that have died before an abscess forms. Unfortunately we are having to change our computer system and our software in April and May 2002 as the language in which the old system was written no longer has software support. As with any new IT system, we anticipate some teething problems....
With Summer coming (with a bit of luck!) please remember that the fleas will be with us soon. Time to check that the house has been recently treated and that your pet has had his or her regular flea treatment. There are a number of new flea products available, as well as a 'spot on ' tapeworm product for cats.... For more information, feel free to ring us on 01603 426310.
